Double blind, placebo controlled study of the mussel Perna canaliculus (New Zealand Green-lipped mussel) in gonarthritis (arthritis of the knee)

53名の膝関節炎患者を対象とした、適切に計画されたこのプラセボ比較臨床試験では、客観的評価（可動性）と主観的評価（患者の症状の認識）両方において、緑イ貝エキス末が関節炎に対し非常に効果の高い治療剤であることが示されました。片ひざにのみ関節炎を伴う患者を調査する事で、広汎性の関節炎に伴う変化を排除する事ができ、さらに詳しく、より多くの指標について研究することができました。関節炎における患者を衰弱させる要因は痛みと機能低下であり、この2つはこの治療によく反応しました。面白い事に、中等度の患者は重症の患者より、著しい改善が認められました。

Introduction

Seatone is a lyophilized extract of New Zealand grddn-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus). This product, extracted from the mussel gonads, has been scientifically investigated for more than ten years and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties both in animal experimentation and in random (clinical) trials on rheumatoid arthritis and arthritis.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of long term treatment with Seatone against placebo in arthritis of the knee. The choice of gonarthritis as a model of chronic degenerative arthropathy is justified by the frequency of this arthritic site and the chronic nature and relative stability of the pain and joint constraint, at least in its femorotibial manifestation.

Seatoneはニュージーランド緑イ貝(ペルナ カナリキューラス)の凍結乾燥抽出物である。緑イ貝生殖腺抽出物であるこの商品は科学的に10年以上研究され、動物実験とリュウマチ性関節炎や関節炎の臨床実験において抗炎症作用成分が含まれていることが示されてきている。

この研究においてSeatoneとプラセボによる関節炎の長期間治療の有効性を証明した。慢性変性疼痛モデルとして膝関節炎を選択したことは少なくとも大腿骨の発症における関節炎症部と慢性の度数と疼痛、関節圧迫の関連安定を証明する。
